Musical theater and bebop include a multitude of musical styles, from jazz standards played at jam sessions, to film and television classics, the Great American Songbook, and Academy Award–winning performances.

During its 33rd season in Central Texas schools, the Austin Jazz Workshop will introduce students to three terms—improvisation, jazz standards, and bebop—through the demonstrations using musical theater hits and the Great American Songbook.
