The Austin Jazz Workshop’s Annual Silent Auction and Live Music Festival is confirmed for:

NOON TO 4:00 P.M.

JOE’S CRAB SHACK at 600 East Riverside Drive, Austin TX

The event features four Austin ISD jazz bands plus the Austin Jazz Workshop quintet, and two silent auctions to raise money for next year’s performance season.  It’s our only fundraiser for the year, and always a great time!  Don’t miss it!

Watch this space for more details.  Here is a report on last year’s event:

The AJW’s 2017 Silent Auction and Live Music Festival was held on Saturday April 29th at Joe’s Crabshack.  Four central Texas student jazz bands and the Austin Jazz Workshop performed to enthusiastic crowds of supporters.  Many thanks to Band Directors Ponder East of LBJ High School, Eric Mills of Anderson High School, James Hairston of Lamar Middle School, and Jennifer Boltz of O. Henry Middle School, and all their fabulous young musicians.  They did a tremendous job!

Many thanks to our host, Joe’s Crabshack, and our Board Members who were on hand to help out: Herb Holland, Henry Rohlfs, Tara Hall, Debra Erck, Pam Zeigler, Rosita Bradham, Todd Sloan…and a special shout-out to Jana Kennon, who once again put together two Silent Auctions that raised money at the event!

Thanks are also due to the AJW musicians who performed a set of Thelonious Monk material: Shawn Ellison, Randy Zimmerman, Glenn Rexach, Kevin Scott, and Michael Melinger. These folks work hard all year long to bring jazz music to public school students in central Texas.

As the photos show, it was Big Fun! See you next year!
